Deeside, Raising the Standard at Braemar, 1715
WB WollenAn uncommon 1930s railway poster showing a scene from Scottish history, aimed at the overseas tourist market. The painting, by WB Woollen, shows the exiled James Stuart rallying support for his claim to the thrones of England & Scotland at a gathering of the clans near Braemar in the Western Highlands. At the time the poster was published, passengers could travel to Braemar from London King’s Cross via Aberdeen. Incredibly this copy appears to have been sent to Tasmania and is stamped 'Launceston 50,000 League' - a local urban development group.
