An original watercolour artwork of St David’s cathedral, Pembrokeshire, for the cover of a British Railways (Western Region) publicity booklet, hand painted by the commercial artist Douglas Ettridge (1929-1990). The artwork retains its original paper mount, annotated ‘To reduce to 8 3/4 x 3 3/4 [inches]’. An early example of Ettridge’s work, before he became better known as an aviation illustrator and fine artist. This very rare survivor was recently rediscovered in a loft in west London, together with a collection of posters, ephemera, and drawings from the former British Railways Publicity Office at Paddington. Hand-signed. Note: the artwork is bright and clean, but with glue residue to outer margins. Higher resolution files are available for viewing on request.
