A really wonderful and unique hand-illustrated ‘mock-up’ for the Great Western Railway pre-war publication ‘London to Plymouth’. This would have been submitted to the GWR Publicity Department at Paddington for approval prior to printing. The covers, made from hand applied photographs, feature the market town of Alcester in Warwickshire and a GWR Express Train. Inside are several pages of original, beautifully hand-drawn, black and while pen/pencil illustrations of places to visit along the way, including: the Royal Albert Bridge, Exeter Cathedral, The White Horse near Westbury, The Thames, Christ Church College Oxford, and the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford-on-Avon. The illustrations are not signed, but the booklet could have been produced by the Ralph Mott Studio which provided the artwork for much of the Great Western’s publicity material at this time. Higher resolution files are available for viewing on request.
