SussexErnest Clegg £150.00
Decorative map of Sussex by the cartographer and designer Ernest Clegg, 1945. This was one of the first of a projected series of British county maps intended to raise money for the Women's Land Army Benevolent Fund. In the event, work on the full set was abandoned in 1947 due to cost and post-war shortages of paper and printing ink. Clegg’s design, dedicated to Lady Densman (Chairman of the National Federation of Women's Institutes 1939-45), includes beautifully realised vignettes of Bodiam Castle, Chichester Cathedral, Pevensey Castle, Lewes Castle and Arundel Castle, with a depiction of the ‘D-Day Armada’ setting out to Normandy.
