An outstanding London Midland and Scottish Railway poster map of the Lake District by the English illustrator and artist Arthur Watts (1883 - 1935), published in 1934. This very uncommon poster is full of extraordinary detail and humour such as a family being guided towards their holiday by a winged Angel and mythical sea creatures in the Irish Sea. Geographically, the poster depicts the whole of the Lake District with details of Lake Windermere, Lake Coniston, Scafell Pike, Morecambe Bay and other major landmarks. But it is much more than a literal depiction of topography and places to visit. Every centimetre is crammed with illustrations, historical information and unexpected detail. A really beautiful and impressive poster. A higher resolution image is available for viewing on request.
