Monsavon au laitRaymond Savignac
An original, and significant, poster for Monsavon ‘milk soap’ by the outstanding French poster designer Raymond Savignac (1907-2002), published in 1949. Widley regarded as one of the most innovative and daring posters of its time, Savignac later claimed "I simply thought of a cake of soap for Monsavon, and a cow for the milk”. The image of a cow, emptying its udders into a bar of soap, created a visual scandal and launched Savignac’s career. Over the next twenty years he became famous for his bold, and often humorous, poster designs. This rare, first edition, copy comes from the reference collection of the leading British graphic designer Abram Games (1914-1996), who may have acquired it direct from the artist.
