Remember Belgium
AnonAn original, vintage, British First World War poster, Remember Belgium, 1914. Published by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, this famous image shows a British soldier keeping guard as a Belgian mother and her two children flee the burning ruins of their village – presumably bombed by the advancing German army. The invasion of neutral Belgium in 1914, and especially the resulting displacement of civilian populations, was often cited in British propaganda as a symbol of German ‘barbarity’.
