A remarkable, and rare, original First World War era London Underground poster by the Brothers Warbis, Why Bother About the Germans Invading the Country? Invade it yourself by Underground and Motor-Bus, February 1915. The image depicts a London open top double deck bus parked on a roadside, while a group of children run down a hillside into a wooded glen. An astonishing piece of wartime propaganda, which would soon have been out of step with government restrictions on unnecessary travel. This copy has considerable loss to the top centre and top right, although the main image is largely unaffected. We have decided not to restore the missing damage and recommend that the poster is framed in ‘as-found’ condition, befitting an extremely uncommon poster from almost 110 years ago. A higher resolution image is available for viewing on request.
