Marinello began his career at Hibernian before joining Arsenal for £100,000 in January 1970 - a club record fee at the time. He left Arsenal in July 1973 and later played for Portsmouth, Motherwell, Canberra City, Fulham, Phoenix Inferno, Heart of Midlothian and Partick Thistle.
