London's Tramways, Theatre Land - Late Services by Tramway
John FarleighA rare Theatre Land poster published by the London County Council (LCC) Tramways company in 1922. The image, by Frederick William Charles Farleigh (also known as John Farleigh), depicts fashionable Londoners dressed for a night out at the theatre and includes a montage of West End landmarks. A remarkably vibrant design which captures the glamour and energy of the age. The LCC built a reputation for the quality of its tramway posters during the 1920s, with many (like this one) designed by students at the Central School of Arts & Crafts. Farleigh went on to become a noted wood engraver, fine artist and teacher. The LCC tram network became part of London Transport in 1933. A higher resolution image is available for viewing on request.
