This poster was commissioned by London Underground in 1987 from artist John Bellany – a member of the prestigious Royal Academy. It was part of the 'Art on the Underground' programme launched in 1986 to encourage an artistic rather than a commercial approach to poster design. The surreal scene is rich in symbolism and reflects the cultural diversity of the Camden Lock area in north London.
