An interesting example of self-publicity from the nationalised British Railways, intended to convey scale and progress. The poster was part of a series produced between c.1957 and 1959 by the different regions that made up the rail network. This one highlights the best of traditional operation (a busy scene at Paddington station and a steam hauled passenger Express), together with improvements to the passenger experience (modern commuter stations and newly introduced diesel trains). It was recently rediscovered in a loft in west London, together with a collection of posters, ephemera, and drawings from the former British Railways (Western Region) Publicity Office at Paddington.
