Facts & Figures 2: Ships & Ferries
Studio SevenAn interesting example of self-publicity from the nationalised British Railways, intended to convey scale and progress. The poster was part of a series produced between c.1957 and 1959 by the different regions that made up the rail network. This one, designed by the progressive Studio Seven, lists the surprising number of ships and ferries operated by British Railways in the 1950s. It was recently rediscovered in a loft in west London, together with a collection of posters, ephemera, and drawings from the former British Railways (Western Region) Publicity Office at Paddington.
