Tourist Express. Chesterfield to Pwllheli (via Aberystwyth)
AnonAn original Great Central Railway timetable advertising poster for the company’s Tourist Express from Chesterfield to Pwllheli (via Aberystwyth), commencing July 13th 1914. The design features a contemporary photograph of the seafront at Aberystwyth above a long list of stations that the Tourist Express train will be calling at. These include now closed stations, such as Eckington & Renishaw, together with destinations in Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire, Shropshire, Flintshire, Denbighshire, Powys, Conwy and Gwynedd. Very probably a unique survivor of a service later curtailed by Britain’s entry into the First World War (4th August 1914). A higher resolution image is available for viewing on request.
