Original, hoardings sized, poster for The Sunday Times, advertising the newspaper’s ‘recruitment’ section, 1980. The design repurposes a well-known First World Ward recruiting poster, featuring the character of John Bull accusingly pointing his finger at the viewer. In the original, the message was ‘Who’s absent ? Is it you?, with Bull standing in front of a line of exhausted, and depleted, soldiers. In this version, the soldiers have been replaced with well-dressed civilians from the First World War period, with the slogan ‘Look Forward with the SUNDAY TIMES recruitment pages. Go where the best jobs go’. A higher resolution image is available for viewing on request.
