Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, 1974
Betty Swanwick/Gordon HouseAn uncommon, original poster, painted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1974 by Betty Swanwick and designed by Gordon House. Swanwick's painting depicts the ghosts of Sir Joshua Reynolds and Angelica Kauffman viewing a contemporary abstract painting, while living visitors in the background throng a portrait of the Queen on horseback. Swanwick was an English artist, novelist, teacher and member of the Royal Academy. She began her career designing posters for London Transport in the 1930s.
