A rare and highly significant, original poster for the 1937 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition created by Laura Knight DBE RA (1877-1970). Dame Knight was the first female member of the Academy to be elected since founder members Angelica Kauffman and Mary Moser. Knight had previously designed posters for London Transport in the 1920s and 1930s, but it was as a fine artist in the figurative, realist tradition, that she was to achieve national fame becoming one of the most successful and popular painters in Britain. Her success in the male-dominated British art establishment paved the way for greater status and recognition for female artists.

A rare poster which has been reproduced (in a modern size and paper format) by the Royal Academy as an exemplar of outstanding C20th art and design.
