An original promotional poster, The Cat’s Whiskers, published to celebrate the ninetieth anniversary of ESSO (trading name for ExxonMobil), 1978. The American oil company began trading under a different name in 1888, and adopted a tiger logo after the Second World War. The hugely successful advertising slogan Put a tiger in your tank was created in 1959. This poster was used for commercial advertising and would also have been available from ESSO petrol stations.
