A careless word - another cross
John AthertonAn original Second World War poster, A careless word... another cross, designed by the American artist and print maker John Atherton for the US Office of War Information, 1943. The poster warns against the danger of sharing military information carelessly, which could lead to the death of soldiers – in this case powerfully symbolised by a white wooden cross draped with the helmet and ammunition belt of a fallen serviceman.
