Aldbury Village, Hertfordshire
Jack Merriott (1901-1968)An original travel poster, Aldbury Village, Hertfordshire, painted by the noted British poster artist Jack Merriott and published by British Railways in 1949 as part of the company’s See Britain by Train publicity campaign. A lovely post-war image, typical of Merriott’s work. A slightly sinister note is introduced by the inclusion of the ancient whipping post and stocks (under the tree) in an otherwise bucolic depiction of English country life!
