An astonishingly rare, original, railway travel poster, Not a dull moment in the winter. Hastings and St Leonards, designed by Austin Cooper and published by the Southern Railway, 1935. The vibrant, contemporary, design depicts the various tourist delights on offer at the south coast resorts of Hastings and St Leonards for winter visitors, including dancing, shows, sport (golf, bowls, swimming, tennis, badminton) and winter bathing-medicinal baths. Not a dull moment, indeed.

Austin Cooper was, quite simply, one of the greatest poster designers of interwar Britain, closely associated with London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) publicity. This poster appears to be an example of joint marketing between the LNER and the Southern Railway and bears a stamp stating that the poster has been passed for display on LNER stations.

An example of this poster survives in the collection of the V&A Museum. Otherwise, we can find no other example of this poster either having come for sale or in another museum collection. A higher resolution image is available for viewing on request.
