Original pictorial poster map of central London designed by Kerry Lee. First issued in 1938 by the Southern Railway, this post-war updated version is arguably one of the best decorative railway maps of the twentieth century. It was produced for the 1953 Coronation and is full of period detail, prominent landmarks and humorous scenes. It also includes an illustration of the artist at work (accompanied by his dog, Jim) towards the bottom right corner of the map. The decorative border features historical figures from all the London boroughs with shields showing the coats of arms of each, while the royal procession for the State Opening of Parliament is prominent at the base. Superb. A higher resolution file is available for viewing on request.
