The Sunny South (trimmed)
George AylingAn original, trimmed, railway poster map designed by George Ayling and published by the Southern Railway in 1932. The map shows the principal towns served by the Southern, many of which are represented in charming period detail (such as a depiction of Brighton’s two piers, Lewes Castle, Canterbury Cathedral, the harbour and docks of Portsmouth and Southampton etc).
The poster originally had a text banner at the top and bottom proclaiming The Sunny South, with information about travel offers. It may have been cut-down (text removed) to its present size for display in an office or waiting room, which was a common practice at the time.
