An original Art Deco inspired travel poster, Venice, designed by Pierre Fix-Masseau (1905-1994) for the re-launch of the Venice Simplon Orient Express in 1982. This is a First Edition printing, rather than a later reissue.

Fix-Masseau began his career in France during the 1920s, where he was closely associated with what became known as Art Deco style. Best known for his travel posters featuring railway and automotive themes, Fix-Masseau continued to work in the Art Deco style for the remainder of his life and is acknowledged as a master of the form.

This poster was one of a series commissioned from Fix-Masseau in 1981 by the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express Company, which sought to recapture the glamour of the pre-war Orient Express -  Europe’s most luxurious train service.
