An original Southern Railway travel poster, Sands Across the Sea, by Margaret Bradley, 1937. The poster was commissioned to promote the Southern Railway publication of the same name, which advertised cross-Channel holidays by rail and steamship to northern France. The design features three women wearing traditional costumes associated with Brittany, Normandy and Picardy. The poster is photographed framed, but sold unframed. Margaret Bradley studied in Paris at the Ecole de la Ville and Academie Jullian, and later worked as a commercial and fine artist in London, Paris and Sicily from c.1936 to c.1965. Her many clients included: Southern Railway, British European Airways, British Railways, the Automobile Association, Cassels and the Ford Motor Company.
