A rare, and beautiful, original travel poster, Royal Mail Line Cruises to Norway, designed by the British poster artist Percy Padden (1886-1965) for the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, c. 1927. The design depicts stylishly dressed passengers transferring from a passenger cruise ship into a flotilla of motorboats waiting to transport them to a picturesque Norwegian town nestled in a mountainous landscape. A charming, and Art Deco-inspired, illustration where the massive modernity of the cruise liner contrasts effectively with the timeless landscape rendered here in dramatic flat colour.

Founded in 1839, the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company was the largest shipping group in the world when this poster was created, but within a few years the company was in financial trouble and became part of the newly formed Royal Mail Lines in 1932.
