Original railway travel poster, See Scotland, Oban the road to the Isles, by Alasdair Macfarlane, published by British Railways (Scottish Region) in 1955. The image depicts an elevated view of the town and harbour of Oban, opening onto the Firth of Lorn. The poster was probably issued jointly with the steamship company David Macbrayne Services Ltd, as the company’s emblem and title appear at the base alongside those for British Railways. In a charming detail, a steam hauled passenger train can be seen arriving at Oban station (the terminus of the West Highland Line) to meet the waiting steamships for onward exploration of the famous west coast Scottish islands, including Mull, Iona, and Kerrera.
